ABOUT ME:
Personal Bio: My name is Sophie Didier and I am a freshman at the University of Cincinnati. I just recently switched into Secondary Education with the specialization in Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. I am originally from Zanesville, Ohio and I graduated from Bishop Rosecrans High School. I've grown up in a family that stressed the importance of math and science. My mom has been in education for 25 years teaching middle school math and math education at the university level while my dad is a mechanical engineer. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
I spent my last semester of my senior year in Galicia, Spain studying Spanish and I am continuing with that by pursuing a minor in Spanish.
During High School I was involved in a lot of extracurricular activities such as Campus Ministry, Pep Club, Mock Trial, National Honors Society and a club I founded an organization called Community Club that focused on integrating service projects with educating the student body about global issues. http://www.facebook.com/#!/BRHSCommunityClub WORK EXPERIENCE: While I am not at school I work for a Machine Shop called White Machine as an assistant secretary. More or less I organize payables and receivables and try to keep up with paperwork. I also tutor several kids in usually math and English during the summer. WHY I WANT TO BE AN EDUCATOR:
I decided that I wanted to major in secondary education because one of my many summers jobs consisted of tutoring different ages of students in basically any subject. I really liked being able to positively impact their lives and to set them up for success for the following school year. I also enjoy learning how different people think and process information so I would like to explore more into that subject in order to become a better teacher. I think the main thing that affected my interest in becoming an educator is for my senior research paper I decided to write it about the education system in the United States. This research project taught me a lot about how dire the need was for good educators in our country and the effect it would have on the future of our country in terms of the economy and our intellectual competitiveness. I want to be a part of bettering this system and the future generation
PERSONAL GOALS FOR THIS CLASS:
My goals for this class are to be able to implement technology into the classroom and to be able to adapt to the changes in technology throughout the years. I want whatever classroom I will be teaching in in the future to have all the available tools and technology in order to succeed in the real world.
A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA As mentioned earlier, during the last semester of my senior year I studied abroad in Spain. This experience impacted me greatly and I believe will forever influence the person that I am and most importantly how I will choose to teach my students. While I was living abroad I got the opportunity to travel and visit many places that I would have never dreamed of visiting. It taught me so much about tolerance for other people but most shockingly it taught me how to learn. This might seem strange but being immersed in these new places made me want to learn more about the world around me and made me want to try to understand what I couldn't. I want to apply those lessons into my classroom. I want to teach tolerance and acceptance and make my students fall in love with the world around them. I want to give them hope to make futures for themselves in whatever they want to do. Sometimes I feel like many students don't understand how far education can take them or they don't know what lies outside their small little world. I want to open that door up for them and try to help them discover their passions and they dreams.
Relating to Standards
This relates to standards 2.a. that state that teachers should design or adapt learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote students learning and creativity. Reflection I will relate this to my teaching by using teaching tools that kids are familiar with. They may not even recognize that these tools are educational because they hold a different connotation in their mind. This will make learning move fun and motivate them to participate more.
Relating to Standards This relates to standard 1.b. that states that teachers should engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. Reflection This relates to my teaching because I know that in order to help students truly learn the material needs to be able to relate to the real world and actual situations.
RUBRIC http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=2299217 Relating to Standards
This relates to standards 2.c. that state that teachers should promote students reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify student's conceptual understanding, thinking, planning and creative process. It also relates to standard 2.d. that state that teachers should provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching. Reflection
I will implement this in my future classroom by having my students be self reflective about the project they will be doing. This will help them understand fully the standards that they have set for themselves and hopefully motivate them to meet their own standards.
Dog and girl sharing ice cream-
Sharing relates to fair use because it’s opening up barriers that used to exist with old copyright laws. It is now a lot easier to use images that are from various media sites. Since the world is becoming smaller because of the internet, sharing is something that people need to adjust to.
Bill of rights-
People need to be more aware of their rights concerning copyright laws. Teachers can limit their lesson plans and creativity because they are afraid of getting in trouble. But if they were familiar with fair use they would find their limits less constraining.
Social media-
People put their images on a social media site knowing that many people are going to see them and have access to them and there is not much safety with containing that image considering it is on the internet in general.
The horizon-
With fair use teacher realize they do not have as strict rules with copyright as they thought and have more freedom to use what they find and gives them the ability to be more creative with their lesson plans.
Education-
If you are using the image for an educational purpose fair use comes into play. With what we did, by making this collage of pictures to promote the purpose of fair use we are helping to educate others.
Adding value-
Adding information to an image you have found on the internet adds more value to the image itself because it is accompanied by the information you are providing.
Relating to Standards
This project relates to standard 4.d. which states that teachers should promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. Reflection
I would apply this to my future classroom by making sure my students are educated about their technology rights. I think this will help my students be less afraid to use the Internet for a project or research and really facilities creativity in the classroom.
